Putties and their use

Car putty is a type of filler used in the body repair process. It is used to smooth the surface of the car body by filling cavities, bumps and dents. Depending on the type, putty can be used at different stages of the car repair process.
There are many different putties available in the BOLL series, which differ in composition, properties and purpose. Choosing the right putty is very important in order to achieve the desired effect of the painting work.
Fiberglass putty
It is a type of putty reinforced with special micro-glass fiber, which gives it greater mechanical strength. It is used to fill large cavities and strengthen weakened car body elements. When dry, it forms a very hard, damage-resistant surface. Excellent for repairing corroded and welded parts in particularly vulnerable and hard-to-reach areas.
Aluminum putty
Filler with aluminum dust, which increases its resistance to high temperatures and ensures excellent adhesion. It is characterized by high elasticity and smooth texture. This type of putty is intended for use on large surfaces and high temperature parts, i.e. close to the engine or exposed to sunlight.
Putty for plastics
A special plastic putty is used to repair plastic parts such as bumpers, fenders and mirror housings. Plastic putty is characterized by very good adhesion to the substrate and exceptional flexibility.
Universal putty
As the name suggests, this is the most popular and versatile type of putty. It is used to fill both small and larger cavities. Due to its suitable flexibility and very good adhesion, it is easy to apply and process. Ideal for mechanical sanding and manual sanding. It can be used on steel, galvanized steel, aluminium, polyester laminates, old paints and also wood.
Soft putty
Soft polyester putty, for filling both large and small cavities. It is very flexible and spreads easily, so even inexperienced users have no problem using it. Excellent sandability. Like universal putty, it is also suitable for use on most substrates.
Finishing putty
Soft finishing putty, used to fill small cavities. The finishing putty is in the form of a fine-grained paste and is very easy to work with. It is applied to sanded and cleaned surfaces. Suitable for use in places that have been sanded after using filler and need to be filled.
Aerosol putty (spray putty or spray putty)
It is applied with an air sprayer, spray putty is used for finishing works. It allows a completely smooth coating even on very large surfaces.
Use of putties.
All types of putty should be applied to a cleaned, matted and degreased (removed of grease) substrate. The best effect is achieved by applying several thin layers of putty instead of one thick layer. This allows the putty to harden faster. Once the surface is properly leveled, we can proceed with the painting process step.
The table below provides an overview of BOLL putties, their properties and areas of use. Use it to make it easier to choose the right product for the type of repair.
