if the dvr is connected to a power source that turns on and off with the car, it will automatically start when the car starts and stop recording when you stop the car.

15 minutes of recorded material with a resolution of 1280x720 is about 1 GB in size.
so with an 8GB memory card you always have the last 2 hours saved. if you're in an accident, you'll have plenty of time to remember to turn off the dvr so it doesn't overplay your "evidence" footage.
