Diesel Particulate Filter Cleaner is a fuel borne catalyst (FBC) that is added to diesel fuel to regenerate DPFs. FBC contains organo-metallic molecules which burn in the engine, metal atoms become metal oxide and mix with the soot particles. Soot in the DPF is catalysed by the metal oxide particles : burns readily. Use of FBC removes much of the concern about city driving. Key difference with FBC: a red traffic light will not put the fire out (burning carbon with FBC in the DPF is like a lighted firework). Filters much less likely to clog with soot : rapid burn out achieved with FBC. Occasional burst of speed or hard acceleration will trigger rapid burn-out.
