jvc (short for japan victor company ) is a japanese brand owned by jvckenwood . In 1927 victor talking machine company of japan and later victor company of japan ltd. Founded by nihon bikutā kabushiki gaisha, the company was best known for introducing televisions and developing Japan's first home video system. ( vhs ) video recorder.

from 1953 to 2008, jvc's majority shareholder was matsushita electric industrial co. In 2008, jvc merged with kenwood corporation to create jvckenwood. jvc sold its electronic products in its home market in japan under the name "victor" with his master's voice logo. however, the company previously used the name jvc or nivico for export; this was because his master's voice logo and the name "victor" were owned by the descendants of the victor talking machine company. In 2011, the Japanese electronics brand victor was replaced by the global jvc brand. but jvckenwood victor entertainment retains the previous "victor" name and logo and is used as the jvckenwood luxury hifi brand.

in europe jvc mainly sells some audio accessories like headphones and until recently din car audio. JVC is also represented in Europe with video cameras, security cameras, sound systems and projectors with its symbolic boom box. JVC TVs in Europe are mainly produced by the Turkish manufacturer Vestel, but they are not available in all countries.

JVC manufactures original audio equipment for vehicle manufacturers including Datsun, Nissan, Suzuki and Honda vehicles.
